ABSTRACT: The study presented focused on the identification and prevalence of parasites in selected fruits and vegetables from Central market and Quinta public market in Manila. The modified methodology used was patterned after De Leon et al's 1992 methodology in her study entitled Parasitic Contamination of Slected Vegetables sold in Metropolitan, Manila. Philippines. Nine species of parasites which were of medical importance were identified. The parasites were Ascaris ova, hookworm, tapeworm egg, Blastocystis hominis, Balantidium coli, Entamoeba, Iodamoeba, buetschlii, Nematode ova and Acanthocephalan worm. Fungal spores and free living parasites were also found in the samples examined. Based on the test on two proportions, it was found out that there was no significant difference in the prevalence of parasites between the two public markets of Central and Quinta in Manila. Using One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), the computed data indicated that the fruit and vegetable samples had a significant difference in the number of parasites presnet.
