Action note: In: Summary: ABSTRACT: Vision is a very important sense of a human which allows us to carry out various activities-including reading on which visual capacity to perceive visual information allows to access printed materials to acquire knowledge. However, a barrier to independent learning is present for individuals with visual impairements at it creates a struggle in accessing printed materials and offering. This study presents the development of a reading assistive device features such as voice command, magnification, and text - to - speech. The features are implemented in a Rasberry Pi along with an LCD and a camera to enable the different functionalities to work. The device utilizes a microphone for the voice command and buttons to execute magnification or text - to - speech mode. The study gathered data for the efficiency of the device in terms of speed and accuracy, listening quality and user experience from the respondents. The device was able to achieve 90% accuracy in executing voice commands. The magnification mode can detect a higher number of characters in low magnification while the text to speech mode was able to achieve a 93% accuracy on converting text to speech. The device was able to gather a score of 75 in System Usability Score and 4.096 for Mean Opinion Score. It can be concluded that the device was able to execute the different functionalities with high accuracy and fast response time while having good listening quality and a good rating for the user experience.
