Action note: In: Summary: ABSTRACT: Obesity is such a big word, a mouthful of misconceptions and an upsized gulp of preconceived notions. A great threat for the Filipino families. So what's really on the table? The deal on the table is that our little ones are becoming the time bombs of this dreaded epidemic. This three week study sought to investigate the Parental Influence in the development of Childhood Obesity. Utilizing Correlational Descriptive Research Design and the purposive technique of randomizing was applied. Initially, the profile variable of parents were taken and contrasted as part of the sample population of eighty (80) parents with obese child. The outcome measures the parental perception towards Childhood Obesity in the aspects of awareness and recognition which garnered a 2.97 general weighted mean that falls within the average level and weighted their extent of influence in obesity development. Furthermore, the significant relationship of the profile variable and parental influence in the development of Childhood Obesity was assessed using chi-square formula and obtained the following values: a. Educational Attainment: 98.93 > 15.51, thus rejecting the null hypothesis; b. Number of Offsprings: 86.81 > 9.35, thus rejecting the null hypothesis; lastly for c. Family Income: 31.604 > 9.35, thus rejecting the null hypothesis. The following findings yielded a significant relationship between the profile variable and parental influence in the development of Childhood Obesity. Findings suggest that a parental awareness program be conducted with regards to Childhood Obesity, this is because parental perception on Childhood Obesity falls only within the average level. Moreover, garnering a high level of parental influence in the three aspects using the weighted mean formula: food preparation garnered an average of 3.54 General Weighted Mean, physical activity garnered an average of 3.66 General Weighted mean and the psychosocial aspect which garnered an average of 3.66 General Weighted Mean, a diet and a home-based activity program in imperative. The study further recommends the following: (1) A comprehensive awareness program for Childhood Obesity be conducted nationwide through the educational system and the cooperation of the Health Department through parents seminar: (2) The study be replicated and included in the Responsible parenting in the community to be facilitated by the Health Department. (3) Hospital base researchers be conducted focused on the pathological outcome. (4) An Integrated Awareness and Management program be conducted for Health Care Providers (5) To categorize in detail the Educational Attainment of parents. (6) School nurses could conduct the same study to formulate a school based program. (7) An in-depth study on the significant relationship between neglect of failing into account the child's height and the occurrence of obesity. (8) Childhood obesity is susceptible to society's determining dilemmas than even before. This concern calls for the health professionals in the academe to integrate and put emphasis in the promotive and preventive aspects of obesity. The development of obesity is an interplay of several factors. This did not assume to have full and total control of all these factors.
