ABSTRACT: Education in universally recognized as one of the most fundamental building blocks for human development that has a formative effect on the mind, character or physically ability of an individual. It is the process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, skills and values from one generation to another. Instructors often refer to these three categories as KSA (Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude). That is, after a learning episode, the learner should have acquired new skills, knowledge, and/or attitudes. That's why it is the instructor's task to ensure that this students are receiving the best information in his subject. For learning to be truly successful, he must transfer his skills and knowledge to his students in the most effective way. With this study, the researchers wanted to assess the level of proficiency in teaching strategies and classroom management of novice professors at the College of Nursing in Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. Specifically, it aimed to determine the profile of the novice professor of PLM-CN in terms of months of experience and familiarity to subject taught; the level of proficiency of novice professors at PLM CN when they are grouped according to profile. The researchers used the descriptive type of research with the questionnaire as the chief instrument in gathering the data. The purposive sampling technique was utilized to select the respondents. The respondents came from the faculty of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, College of Nursing. They were selected based on a specific criterion. They must have an experience of utmost one school year composed of two semesters. A researcher-constructed questionnaire was utilized in determining the level of Proficiency in Teaching Strategy and Classroom Management of Novice Professors at PLM CN. A set questionnaire was constructed. It consisted of three parts. Such questionnaire was submitted to experts for validation. Pre-testing of the questionnaire was administered. Five (5) clinical instructors and one (1) academic professor participated in the conduct of the study. Statistical treatment used to answer statement of the problem no. 1.1 was frequency distribution and percentage; and in statement of the problem no. 1.2 & 2, weighted mean was applied; to statement of the problem no. 3.2, t-test was utilized; and for statement of the problem no. 3.2, one-way ANOVA was used. The findings showed that 100% of the respondents have 0 - 4 months teaching experience in PLM CN and that the subject they are most familiar with is Anatomy and Physiology. In terms of teaching strategy, most of the respondents prefer to use lecture and demonstration to deliver meaning of information to the students. Also, it showed that the respondents seldom give detailed background readings and assign stakeholder roles as preparation. In terms of classroom management, most of the respondents create an environment conducive for learning because they know this is important for student's education and they seldom plan and prepare ahead of time to achieve the objectives and desired behavioral changes, give appraisal or feedback to what their students have discussed and allow their students to fully develop their potentials by giving different types of activity related to the subject matter. Also, it is found out that there is no significant difference between the level of proficiency of novice professors at PLM CN when they are grouped according to profile. With the findings and conclusions distinguished, the researchers recommend future researchers to conduct the study with a diverse populace mainly a different and larger batch of novice professors and find out if there are distinction in the gathered conclusions; focus on a specific are in assessing the level of proficiency of novice professors; use a more refined and more precise statistical method than the one used in this study; add other factors that might or might not influence the level of proficiency of novice professors in terms of their teaching strategies and classroom management; use the findings in creating a guidelines of the teaching strategies and classroom management that are effective and can be use by not just novice professors but also those who are into the teaching profession; and use the findings by the Nursing administrators in ruling out some ideas on how they could inculcate the most effective teaching strategies and classroom management to their faculty thru seminars and workshops.
