Action note: In: Summary: ABSTRACT: The purpose of the study is to gauge the level of awareness of PLM faculty and staff employees to the possible predisposing risk factors that may contribute to the development of RA. The study utilized a descriptive type of research design which describes the behaviour of the subjects. The study was conducted at the different colleges of selected PLM faculty and staff offices. 145 selected PLM faculty and staff were the subjects of the study. The sample size was determined using the Slovin's formula and the researchers used the simple sampling method by means of lottery of fishbowl method. The researchers asked a consent form to conduct a survey into selected faculty and staff of different colleges of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. The questionnaire type of survey was the essential tool in this study. It was verified by our research adviser and underwent pretest and necessary modifications for improvement. The questionnaire was based from the factors that may influence the awareness of the respondents to the Rheumatoid arthritis. Simple Random selection was the method the researcher used to examine the representative elements of populations. The researcher distributed and was in charge of conducting the survey. The researchers collected and obtained the answered questionnaire and then it was treated with an appropriate statistical analysis. From the intrinsic factors that can contribute to the development of RA, the following are were known by most of the respondents: Age : RA has greater incidence in women ages 60-64 year old women that women ages 29 years old ( 71.0%), Family history: RA can be inherited from your parents (62.1%) and Gender: Women are more prone to have RA (57.9%). The extrinsic factor that most people were aware of are the following. Smoking is a major environmental risk factor for developing rheumatoid arthritis (64.1%), Environmental pollutants (second-hand smoke, food chemicals or chemicals in the air, jet fuel fumes, UV exposure) considered provoking the onset of RA (55.0%) and That drinking alcohol may reduce the severity of rheumatoid arthritis (43.4%). Using SPSS, it has shown that the respondents have a high level of awareness in all the intrinsic factors with the only exception with the only exception of intrinsic question while as for the extrinsic factors, Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) can be inherited from your parents got the highest level of awareness.
