Action note: In: Summary: ABSTRACT: This study looked into the relationship of the PLM nursing students' profile, nutritional lifestyle and food preferences. Specifically, the study answered the following questions: (1) the demographic variable of PLM nursing students in terms of gender, economic status, religion and year level; (2) the frequency of their nutritional lifestyle practices according to health dimensions in terms of Physical Health Lifestyle, Emotional Health Lifestyle, Mental Health Lifestyle, Social Health Lifestyle and Spiritual Lifestyle. (3) their food preference in terms of Sweets and Oils Group, Milk Group, Meat and Beans Group, Vegetable Group, Fruits Group and Grains Group; (4) If there is a significant difference on the nutritional lifestyle when grouped according to profile variable; (5) If there is a significant difference on the food preferences when grouped according to profile variable; and (6) If there is a significant relationship between the nutritional lifestyle practices and food preferences. Furthermore, the researchers tested the hypothesis is at the level of significance of 0.05. The descriptive - correlative method was assimilated and a self-developed three-part questionnaire was used. Disproportionate Stratified Random Sampling was utilized to obtain the number of sample from the population. The total of number of sample is 114 which consists of 1st to 4th year nursing students. The study was conducted in Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. He findings revealed that in the PLM nursing students, majority of them is female. For the economic status, most of the respondents are in the above average category (>12, 120) and in religion the greatest number of the sample are Roman Catholic. In terms of nutritional lifestyle generally are often following the practices for the five health dimensions. In physical, emotional, mental and spiritual the respondents are all practicing them often. However, they in social health lifestyle they do it less often. Regarding the food preference of the sample, the researchers utilized the six food groups included in the Food Guide Pyramid. Results showed that the students prefer eating the fruits group the most. Having a tie for the second and third spots are the grains group, and meals and beans group. At number 4 is the milk group next is the sweets and oils group while the last is the vegetable group. After the study, it was found that only religion with regards to the physical health lifestyle; and the year level with regards to the emotional, social, and mental health lifestyles showed significant variation and the others did not. And in terms of the significant variation on the food preferences of PLM nursing students when grouped according to profile variable; only the gender & year level (both for sweets and oils group only), and religion (for meats and beans group only) showed to have significant differences. Furthermore the data revealed that there is a positive negligible relationship between the nutritional lifestyle and food preference of PLM nursing students. The more the nutritional lifestyle and food preference of PLM nursing students. The more the nutritional lifestyle increases the greater preference for the fruits group. In view of the findings and conclusions of the study, the following recommendations are hereby presented for consideration: a) Student nurses are expected to demonstrate awareness with the factors that could affect their nutritional status. b) PLM should be aware with the consumption of quality foods of the students through serving nutritious and healthy foods c) Nursing Educators/Clinical Instructors should instigate the education of the students and colleagues regarding the implications of nutritional lifestyle practices to food preferences, d) Nursing Administration is supposed to generate activities that would focus on maintaining proper nutrition. They should display consciousness with the health of their subordinates that is affected by their individual lifestyles e) The community, such as the parents, are ought to be cognizant in uplifting their families' nutritional status and understanding on the effects to the body. In addition, non-government organizations and government institutions must aid them by implementing programs to remind the community regarding the significance of the nutritional lifestyle practices and familiarize themselves about food pyramid to gain knowledge about the different sources of nutrients f) The future researchers are expected to be aided in their study by utilization of the concepts and methodologies applied in the research regarding the nutritional lifestyle of the students and their food preferences.
