ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Prevalence of scoliosis in the Philippines was not well documented and among the most common cause of scoliosis is poor posture which is common among architecture students. OBJECTIVES: To determine the prevalence of scoliosis among first year BS Architecture students and will be a significant endeavour in promoting good work environment in the workplace and observance of good body posture of the students. METHODOLOGY: A total of 66 1st year students were dcreened for scoliosis. The subjects underwent Adam's forward bending test and were positive if one side of the rib cage was higher than the other. The frequency of the participants who were positive or negative were obtained and tallied. RESULTS: 41 (62.12%) out 0f 66 of the participants were female and 25 were male. Of the 66 participants 60 were either 16 or 17 years old. 34 out of 66 were positive of scoliosis with 18 of the participants has dextroscoliosis and 16 has levoscoliosis were more prevalent in 16 years old while levoscoliosis were more prevalent in 17 years old students. Levoscoliosis and dextroscoliosis were more prevalent in females than males with a ratio of 10:0 and 13:5 respectively. Discussion: The prevalence of scoliosis was 51.51% with 24.24% were levoscoliosis and 27.27% were dextroscoliosis were more prevalent in 16 years old while levoscoliosis were more prevalent in 17 years old students. Environmental and lifestyle factors play an important role and the most probable cause for the high prevalence of adolescent scoliosis among the participants of this study mainly because of the nature of their course and the place they work in. CONCLUSION: Prevalence of scoliosis was found to be alarmingly high. Majority of these students were found to have scoliosis and dextroscoliosis , and it was found that female students were more affected yhan males.
