ABSTRACT:Physical Activity has a lot of benefits across all individuals from different age group. These benefits include a longer life, less risk of developing many diseases, greater wellbeing, fewer symptoms of depression, lower rates of smoking and substance misuse and ability to function better at work and home (Murray, 2006). However, despite these numerous benefits, according to the World Health Organization, physical inactivity is alarmingly common among adolescents. The researchers aimed to determine the perceived barriers and motivation to physical activity among PLM students and consequently develop possible solution to the obtained barriers. The study included 123 undergraduate students from the nine Colleges of PLM. The researchers used a randoized stratified sampling which is designed specifically for population having distinct subpopulations (Rossi, 2010). Proportional allocation of respondents per college was obtained. The researchers used the Exercise Motivation Inventory (EMI-2) in measuring the motivations to exercise and the Exercise Benefits/Barriers Scale in measuring the respondents perceived benefits and barriers to exercise. It was found out that the topmost motivation among PLM students was the indicator To have a healthy body.' The topmost benefit of physical activity was the indicator Exercise increases my muscle strength.' Meanwhile, the topmost barrier was the indicator 'Exercising takes too much of my time.' It was also found out that the greater the perceived motivations of the PLM students are, the ore likely it is for them to engage in physical activities.
