ABSTRACT: INTRODUCTION: Hamstring tightness has been one of the most prevalent impairments road cyclists may acquire resulting to potential musculosketal injuries. Thus, a decrease in athletic performance may occur. Stretching and kinesiotaping are two of the many intervention that are known to prevent as well as improve muscle tightness. The aim of this study was to determine the immediate effects of PNF H-R stretching technique combined with KT in comparison with PNF H-R stretching alone on the performance of road cyclists having hamstrings tightness in the Franzia Team. METHODS: Fifteen road cyclists from Franzia Team participated in the study and are randomly assigned into two groups of PNF-H-R with kinesiotaping and PNF H-R alone. Sit and Reach test (SRT), SLR 90-90, and 6-minute cycle test (6-MCT) were used to measure muscle length, range of motion, and distance, respectively. The treatments for both groups were given for four sessions during the study. RESULTS: At the end of the treatment period, there were significant increases within both groups in the SRT and SLR 90-90 outcome measures. However, 6-MCT revealed no significant difference was obtained in improving muscle length, knee range motion and distance. CONCLUSION: The current study suggests the application of either techniques: PNF-H-R with KT and PNF-H-R alone. But if the goal is to obtain better athletic performance, then PNF H-R with KT is more recommended.
