Action note: In: Summary: ABSTRACT: The study aimed to assess the training needs of staff nurses, in which a Professional Development Program was developed. The respondents of the study were 40 staff nurses and 5 supervisors from Emergency Room. Operating Room/Delivery Room, Obstetric-Gynecology Ward, Pediatric Ward and Medical Surgical Ward of Ospital ng Sampaloc. The descriptive method of research was utilized in the study. Furthermore, the major instrument that was utilized for data gathering was aquestionnaire adapted from University of Bimmingham made by Professor Carolyn Hicks and Dr. Deborah Hennessy which was licensed to World Health Organization for online use. The results revealed that nurses have a greatest training need in Research including the task of using technical equipment such as computer and assessing relevant literature. Majority of the staff nurse respondents are working in the hospital for five (5) years or more and almost half of them are exposed in the Emergency room. Both staff nurses and supervisors considered all 30 tasks as critical to success in the successful job performance of their job. In the extent of performance of nurses, all tasks are considered a good current practice however except tasks under Research are rated poor current practice. There is no significant difference in the extent of training needs when grouped according to years of exposure while there are significant differences in the extent of training needs on Administration.
