This basic social unit is being challenged by the advent technology, specifically , the Internet. Objectives: The study aimed to describe the socio-demographic characteristics of the Grade 7-9 students from Manila High School and Jesus Reigns Christian Academy according to sex, age, type of school attending, student's daily allowance, extracurricular activity, family structure and access to Internet connection. It also aimed to determine the frequency of use use of online social networking sites (SNS) and its association with family functioning. Methodology: An analytic cross-sectional study design with a four-stage probability sampling design was used. Survey forms were distributed to 340 students both chools to obtain the necessary information on their SNS use and family functioning. Logistic regression and prevalence ratio were used in the analysis (a=0.05). Results: The total respondents were 234, which accounted for 68.82% response rate. Of these, the study found out that 97.44% were online SNS users and 33.33% were classified as perceiving to have dysfunctional families. The prevalence ratio obtained was 0.95, which may mean that the use of online SNS might have a protective effect on having perceived dysfunctional families (p>0.05). Conclusion: No statistical association was found between frequency of online SNS use and family functioning. This may be due to a low response rate (68.82%) and could mean that the results may only be a representative of the respondents and not of the target population. Respondent bias may have also affected the results of the study, which may have rooted from the inaccurate information given to protect the respondent's personal interest and integrity.
