ABSTRACT: This quasi-experimental study was designed to determine the effects of literature-based teaching approach on the Achievement test and Attitudinal and Health Habit scale. The following hypotheses were tested: 1. There is no significant difference between the pretest mean of the control group and the experimental group in the Achievement test and Attitudinal and Health Habit Scale. 2. There is no significant difference between the pretest mean of the control group and the posttest mean of the control group. 3. There is no significant difference between the pretest mean of the Experimental group versus the posttest mean of the same group in their Achievement test and Attitudinal and Health Habit scale. 4. There is no significant difference between the posttest mean of the Control group versus the posttest mean of the Experimental group in their Achievement test and Attitudinal and Health Habit scale. 5. There is no significant difference between the mean gain scores between the Experimental group and the Control group in their Achievement test and Attitudinal and Health Habit scale. The study used two Grade Six classes from Section 2 and Section 3 equated with their grades in Science and Health in Grade V. A total of eighty (80) pupils from Section 2 were used as the Control group while forty (40) pupils from Section 3 were used as Experimental group. Both groups followed the Basic Elementary Curriculum guide and used the Science and Health VI textbook. The lessons in Experimental group were Literature - base while the Control group used the Traditional method. Both groups were taught by the researcher during the First grading period with only one topic about the Human Body System, specifically the Circulatory and Nervous System.
