ABSTRACT: This study aimed at finding out the parenting profile and child rearing patterns of the respondents and the emotional intelligence of their children. Out of the 300 sophomore and junior students of the Psychology Department of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 45 students including their fathers were selected and identified by the counselors to have behavioral, emotional, conduct and social problem. Specifically, this study has the following objectives: 1.

What is the parenting profile of father-parents of the respondents? •

Authoritarian; •

Equalitarian; and •

Permissive? 2.

What are the child rearing patterns of the respondents when grouped according to constructs: a.

Expectations of Children; b.

Parental Empathy Towards Children's Needs; c.

Parent-Child Family Roles; and e.

Children's Power and Independence? 3.

What is the emotional intelligence of the children of the respondents according to the following variables: a.

Intrapersonal; b.

General Mood; d.

Adaptability; e.

Stress Management; and f.

Total EQ? 4.

Is there a significant difference between the child rearing patterns of the respondents and the emotional intelligence of their children? 5.

What is the enhancement program could be suggested for the inclusion in the Guidance Program? The findings of the study showed that the most dominant and with the greatest number of frequency between the parenting profile is the equalitarian type of parenting. It indicates that father parents tend to give their children roles in making choices. They include their child in decision-making and are generally sensitive to the children's need. Fathers in this type are somewhat democratic and usually work with their children as a team. Generally, the profile of the father parents in terms of the child rearing in this study is not closely the same as what other researchers have obtained. It was apparent in the study that regardless of the kind of parenting that one demonstrates, most of their child rearing patterns are inappropriate or not congruent and sends double messages with the kind of parenting styles fathers adhere to. It could be accounted for that parenting cannot be the sole responsibility of the fathers alone and since family is a system, mother parenting is also necessary. Gender differences can also be attributed to the results obtained since by nature, male are not as caring, gentle, and emphatic as compared to females. Based on the findings, there is a significant difference between the child rearing patterns of the respondents and the emotional intelligence of their children. Between the constructs of the child rearing patterns: (Construct A: Expectations of Children, Construct B: Parental Empathy Towards Children's Needs, Construct C: Use of Corporal Punishment, Construct D: Parent-Child Family Roles and Construct E: Children's Power and Independence) against the emotional intelligence of the children na,ely: Intrapersonal (12.391, 3.949, 8.546, 14.077 and 13.553), Interpersonal (23.656, 7.850, 3.165, 25.630, and 26.710), Stress Management (4.678, 11.411, 15.795, 6.031, and 4.050), Adaptability (11.610, 6.202, 11.085, 13.502 and 13.149), General Mood (19.448, 2.679, 2.157, 21.470 and 22.230) and the Total EQ (18.562, 8.254, 21.514, and 25.518) respectively; the absolute computed t-value of each scale of the emotional intelligence for each of the constructs are remarkably higher than the critical value of 1.9876. Thus, the null hypotheses for all are rejected. Hence, there are significant differences in each variable between the constructs of the child rearing patterns of the respondents and the emotional intelligence of their children. Parent-Child Workshop Seminar is suggested to be included in the Guidance Program of the Collegiate Level of the Guidance and Counseling Center's Operational Plan of Colegio de San Juan de Letran. As a recommendation, the researcher proposed the following: 1.

Children of the present generation appreciate parents who give them the opportunity to express themselves. Thus, parents are invigorated to modify their parenting styles according to the call of the situation. Punishment and harsh disciplining are no longer necessary. 2.
