ABSTRACT: Socio-demographic profile and relationship between infidelity and personality traits among seafarers is the focus of this study which is the basis for family therapy. The researcher used universal sampling for 107 seafarers. Self-made survey was used to know the demographic profile of the respondents which is composed of age, civil status, religion, educational background, position at work and income. Whereas, standardized questionnaires were used to determine the level of infidelity and personality traits. Infidelity was measured in terms of legitimacy, seduction, normalization, sexuality, social background and sensation seeking; while personality traits were measured by extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness. After the assessment test, data were tabulated, analyzed and interpreted. Statistical treatments were applied in the study such as frequency and percentage for demographic profile; mean to determine the level of infidelity and personality traits; ANOVA to know the difference of infidelity and personality traits when grouped according to demographic profile; and Pearson r Product Moment Correlation Coefficient to determine the degree of relationship between infidelity and personality traits. Results were stated by presenting the demographic profile, wherein ages 23-30 got the highest frequency of 62 0r 58%; married individuals got 52 or 49%; Roman Catholic gained 85 or 79%; college graduate were 98 or 92%; deck officers were 54 or 50% and 30k-60k income got 65 or 61%. Level of infidelity got the mean of 4.00 which was high wherein sensation seeking was the highest trait. For personality traits, openness gained the highest mean of 3.50, interpreted as high. Infidelity when grouped according to demographic profile showed significant difference to religion, educational background, position and income. For personality traits, openness displayed significant difference to age and income. Followed by extraversion, it revealed significant difference to age, civil status, educational background, position and income. Lastly, agreeableness showed significant difference to age, civil status and income. To test the relationship between infidelity and personality traits, extraversion and openness revealed significant relationship to infidelity. Based on the findings, researcher utilized a specific family therapy program.
