ABSTRACT: Statement of the Problem: This study assessed the effectiveness of computer-based multi-media instruction over the lecture type discussion method in teaching introduction to psychology among selected freshmen students. Methodology: This experimental study employed the Pre-Test- Post- Test Control Group Design. The researcher constructed a fifty item multiple choice test validated by at least three experts of the field. Through the drawing of the lots, the experimental and control group were determined. Both groups underwent pre-testing after which the Experimental group received the Instruction based on the computer, while the Control group carried on with the lecture - discussion type format. Immediately after the treatment post-testing took place and follow up questionnaires were administered for additional information. Statistical Treatment: Comparison of pre-test and post-test were done statistically. The significance of change was measured by means of the t-test adapting a .05 level of significance. The relationship of the respondents' selected profile to their post-test scores was done using the chi-square at .05 level of significance. Summary of Findings: Majority of the respondents in the study are females having 4-6 years of exposure with the use of the computer and are literate in its operation. After the treatment, both groups' post-test rating were classified. Test revealed that for both groups the average rating was evident. It can be observed, however, that there is a higher number of above average ratings in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion: The computer-based multi-media instruction is better compared to the traditional method of lecture discussion method in improving the comprehension of selected first year students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila in learning Introduction to Psychology. Recommendations: The following recommendations of the study are as follows: 1. The integration of the use of the computer in education, especially in the classroom should be implemented. One way of doing it is for every school administrator to focus on the trend. Because of the functionality of the microcomputer, affecting the sector, the use and application of the computer in the classroom must be seen and felt. The main problem of cost can be overcome by the effectiveness it can create. 2. Teachers must learn to use of the computers in teaching their subjects. Commercial and self-made teaching materials can help teachers create lessons that are convenient and efficient. 3. Students' exposure to the use of the computer should start or be reinforced at school so as for the students to see the direct connection of learning experiences at home, in school and at work. 4. Psychology teachers must continue to explore and discover other means in utilizing the usefulness of the microcomputer not only in education but also in other branches.
