ABSTRACT: This study was conducted to assess the resource materials in teaching elementary science for Grades III, IV, V and its implications to the Teacher Instructional Support System (TISS), among nine (9) public schools of Navotas I, Division of Malabon and Navotas (MANA), school year 2002-2003. Findings of this study revealed that diagrams/ drawings and real objects / specimens were always utilized; models and textbooks were frequently utilized; facilities were occasionally utilized; supplementary/ reference materials, instructional equipment and laboratory apparatuses had never been utilized. The perceived problems of the respondents on the availability of science resource materials, procurement of materials, and administrative support were occasionally met. Moreover, the extent of utilization of science resource materials had significant relationship only with the use of supplementary materials and facilities. Furthermore, teachers were not aware of Teacher Instructional Support System (TISS) and there were no available funds for the recommended materials in science teaching. Thus, administrators should strengthen and promote Teachers' awareness of Teacher Instructional Support System (TISS), for the limited science resource materials in schools.
