Action note: In: Summary: Childhood injuries are a growing health problem as it is one of the most significant causes of preventable child morbidity, mortality, and disability. In this case control study, patient records from two hospitals in Manila, Philippines, namely, Ospital ng Sampaloc and Ospital ng Tondo was reviewed with the use of abstraction forms. Different parameters such as age, sex, number of siblings, time of injury, setting, occurrence, nature and location of injury were taken into consideration. Cluster random sampling was utilized and the data were encoded and analyzed using Epi-Info7. Results showed that major cause of unintentional injury among pediatric patients was vehicular and pedestrian accidents. There was an association between the age and the occurrence of unintentional injuries, which was the highest in children aged 6-10 (OR=4.71, p=0.005, CI=2.94-18.94). Association also existed between the month of occurrence, specifically July to September, and unintentional injuries (OR=1.82, p=0.00, CI=0.46-0.74). There is however, no association between sex and occurrence of unintentional injuries. Other editions:
