Action note: In: Summary: A patient's satisfaction with the quality of health care given to him/her is a dimension which is significant yet often overlooked in the hospital setting. The informed consent process, defined as the means by which information regarding procedures done is disclosed by the health care provider and turn understood by the patient, is considered as an important component of patient-centered health care as well as a major contributor to patient satisfaction. Thus, the determination of the relationship between patients' experience on the informed consent process and their satisfaction with health care delivery was the general objective of this study. This research utilized an analytical cross sectional study design. Study area and population included ninety (9) patients from the Medical, Surgical, and Obstetric wards of Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center (OMMC) who are 18 years old and above and had Foley catheters at the time of data collection. The independent and dependent variables - experience on the informed consent process and satisfaction with patient-centered health care, respectively - were measured with the use of two interview schedules containing items answerable with yes or no as adapted from various pre-established questionnaires ; one interview schedule for each aforementioned variable. Exposed and unexposed variables were set as Bad Experience and Good Experience, respectively. While without outcome and with outcome variables were set as Low Satisfaction and High Satisfaction. Data encoding and analysis were done using Epi Info version 3.5.2 Results showed that out of the 90 respondents in this study, 35.6% had bad experience on the informed consent process, while 64.4% had a good experience. In terms of patient satisfaction, 6.7% had low satisfaction with the patient-centered health care, while 93.3% had high satisfaction. The computed Odds Ratio indicates that the odds of having bad experience on the informed consent process is 10.56 times more likely among those who have low satisfaction with the patient-centered healthcare than among those who have high satisfaction. The results of the study demonstrated an association between bad experience regarding the process of informed consent and the low satisfaction with patient-centered health care. The 95% confidence interval and Fisher's Exact Test p-value of 0.02 indicates that the results are statistically significant and only <5% due to chance. An appropriate informed consent process performed by health professionals to their patients is essential to the improvement of the delivery of effective medical care and is an important element in the satisfaction with patient centered health care provided by the hospital.
