The study sought to determine the association between the prenatal care and maternal practices and the anthropometric measurements of neonates in Ospital ng Maynila Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. An analytic cross-cestional study design was used, and after establishing and subjecting to exclusion and inclusion criteria, administered interviews were conducted to obtain information on prenatal care utilization and maternal practices, while anthropometric measurements were obtained from the records, Purposive sampling method was utilized, and Fisher's exact test was used for statistical analysis (a=0.10). The total study population consisted of 79 mothers, aged 18-35 years old. Majority of the mothers reported adequate number of prenatal visits for the three trimesters and adequate supplementation but inadequate vaccination. Maternal practices include adequate carbohydrate and fruit intake but inadequate protein and vegetable intake. Only a small percentage reported alcohol consumption and smoking during pregnancy. On the other hand, majority of the neonates showed normal birth weight, birth length and head circumference. There is sufficient statistical evidence to conclude that there are associations between (1) birth weight and maternal age, (2) birth length and adequacy of prenatal visits during first trimester, vaccination and ferrous sulfate supplementation and (3) head circumference and maternal age, adequacy of prenatal visits during first and second trimester and adequacy of fruit, protein and vegetable intake. Physical environmental and social factors contribute to these results.
