It plays a crucial role in producing food, maintaining our health, and it also has its industrial purposes, indeed, one of the most useful resources on earth. It is a commodity that is widely available, with variants coming all over the world farmed from the ocean or harvested from mines deep underground. However, for the Philippines, with its many coastlines and seas, it is only natural for our local salt to originate from seawater. Our country has a total 5080 hectares that are committed to producing salt through solar evaporation. There are several grades of salt produced by varying methods of evaporation. Traditional salt farms use ceramic-tilled to produce commercial salt. There are numerous salt producers in the Philippines but there is an increasing competition between the local and imported salt due to the Philippines vulnerability to climate change and health reasons (SFI, 2019). A major player in the salt industry, Salinas Corporation, is committed to harvesting 35,000 metric tons of salt annually. Through modern evaporation, the company has managed to deliver quality and highly efficient salt. Thus, the need to validate the quality of the salts is needed.
