ABSTRACT : This article promotes the use of The Simpsons cartoon in adult EFL classes. The show provides opportunities to explore American culture on a variety of topics such as gender issues, environmental issues, health and lifestyle, gay rights, and education. The author recommends multiple viewings of shorter, carefully chosen clips that are well supported by visual cues. Focusing too much on humor is discouraged. Seasons 1-13 and 20 are available on DVD. A sample lesson is included with pre-, during- and post-viewing activities. 56
