ABSTRACT : Students in K-12 are expected to meet national and/or state content standards and outcomes specific to every academic discipline. School teachers design their curricula and assessments based on these standards. In both dance education and physical education national standards have recently been revised and expanded to include outcomes specific to each grade level. Because of their historical bond and unique connections to human movement, dance education and physical education align especially well in terms of possibilities for integration and reciprocity. There are abundant opportunities for dance and physical educators to collaborate and integrate content and ideas from both sets of standards. Although each discipline has its own unique underlying philosophies and emphases, many content areas can be correlated and used to complement each other. Teachers can broaden their curricular content by pulling from both disciplines, and, ultimately, students will deepen their understanding of and abilities in dance. 56
