ABSTRACT : There is no universally accepted definition of wellness. People will refer to it as state of well- being but it is too broad or vague, to say the least. In this study , wellness is defined by one of the vulnerable sectors in the society -the elderly. At present , the Philippines is ranked 5th among the Southeast Asian countries with a high annual population growth rate. The 2000 census of population and housing society reported a total of 4.6 million elderly persons accounted to 6% of the total population. Because of this, government and non-government organizations give programs and services to the elderly, however the question remain, Are these the elderly truly want? Guided and inspired by the epigenetic theory of Erick Erikson and the Hierarchy of Needs of Abraham Maslow, this study was conducted to determine the wellness concept and practices of the elderly as basis for a wellness program. 56
