ABSTRACT : This paper attempts at outlining the sociolinguistic underpinnings of language obsolescence among taga;og speakers inTanza, Cavite. Operating along the Labovian tradition, the Tagalog -Cavite corpus is presented following the juxtaposed descriptive explanatory approach to explain the patterns of language obsolescence. As will be presented several data collection procedures were employed to reveal that the features of obsolencence in the language under study are indeed apparent . Alongside the aims of this paper is the multidisciplinary approach to studying the relationship between language and society that greatly influences the parameter setting for this stud. Communicationand sociological theories are likewise underscored to explain the sociolinguistic principles advanced by foremost sociolinguists Joshua Fishman and william Labov and contemporary sociolinguists Myers scotton, Giles, Crystal and Trudgill. Thus this paper explicitly draws theoretical inspirational from how language attitude contributes to language obsolence. 56
