ABSTRACT : The study determined the correlation between performance ratings of college faculty and academic performance of college freshman students of Trinity University of Asia (TUA) during the first semester of School year 2009 - 2010. Based on the results of the study, the academic performance of college freshman students of TUA was found highest in English while the lowest performance was in Science. The data revealed that they performed better in English than in Science, and likewise better in English than in Mathematics. However, results showed that freshman students performed better in Social Science than in Science and performed better in Social Science than in Mathematics. Further, the data revealed that the college freshman students did not perform differently in English versus Social Science and in Mathematics versus Science. The college faculty on the other hand, had both satisfactory and very satisfactory levels of performance. In English, faculty who got high performance ratings had students with low academic performance and conversely, faculty members with low performance ratings had high-performing students. But their performance in Science, Mathematics and Social Science did not manifest significant relationships. As a final note, though there are other variables to consider, the college faculty played a major and significant role in the teaching-learning process toward the transformation of students to be better individuals. This study made use of a reliable and valid rating instrument as a truthful gauge of the academic performance of students as well as college faculty. 56
