ABSTRACT: Mixture of aliphatic carboxylic acids and inorganic anions were determined by ion- exclusion chromatography. A range of sulfonic acid eluents were examined using UV absorption and conductivity detection. Of the eluents studied , sodium octanesulfonate proved to be the optimum. The aliphatic carboxylic acids were found to elute in the order of increasing carbon number. The retention of these solutes was controlled by a combination of ion-exclusion through the Donnan potential and hydrophobic interactions.detection limits obtained were in the range of 0.71-100 ppm. sulfonic acid eluents were found to be suitable for the determinations of mixtures of aliphatic carboxylic acids and inorganic anions.;Local publication. 56
