Undergraduate Thesis (BS in Computer Science)- Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, 2002.;ABSTRACT: Deforming the shape of an object in space is one of the most fundamental and popular tool in modeling. Deformed objects are used as target models in object animation. This study uses deflector which serves as a vector of gravity positioned in space. This deflector bends all rays passing through its defined area of influence. Images form by this transformed rays give an impression of a deformed space. Unlike other deformation methods which take all parts of the object to deform even if it will not contribute on the final image, this study deforms only those part will contribute to the final image. The use of deflectors can deform any type of object that can be rendered by ray tracing algorithm. This new approach aims to improve the existing space deformation using ray deflector algorithm with only one shape of deflector, which is sphere. Having two identical deflectors with opposite gravity vector direction do not result any deformation. Moreover, it is limited to smooth, disregarding other surface deformation such as cuts and cracks. The proponents have arrive with an enhanced algorithm that adds other shape of deflector (e.g. cylinder, cube, and cone) and three dimensional planes that can help to generate sharp cuts in objects. The new approach on the Space Deformation Using Ray Deflector algorithm was hardened and established to complexly deform an objects avoiding the use of multiple deflectors and providing deformation results with cracks and cuts. 56
