ABSTRACT: The study was done - Identification and Prevalence of Gastrointestinal Parasites Among Children Ages 5-6 in Salome > Tan Preparatory School 1099 Camachile Street, Manila Kanuary 2005. A total of eighty five (85) stool specimens were collected and examined using three diagnostic techniques; Kato-Katz Modified Thick Smear Technique, Harada-Mori Culture Method and Formalin Ether Concentration Technique (FECT). These were the methods used in determining the presence of parasites in the school samples. Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichuria and Enterobius vermicularis were the parasites identified. Ascaris lumbricoides (48.54%) has a higher prevalence compared to Trichuris trichuria (21.18%) and Enterobius vermicularis (1.18%). Gender was the only risk factor resulted to be dependent in the rate of parasitic infection among children examined. The prevalence rate of parasitic infection was 51.76%.
