ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the antiangiogenic potential of Saccharum spontaneum (Talahib) leaf ethanolic extract using the Duck Chorioallantoic Membrane (CAM) assay, addressing the need for alternative natural therapies in angiogenesis-related diseases such as cancer. The positive control, 10 µg/mL of Ehretia microphylla (Tsaang-gubat), demonstrated a strong anti-angiogenic effect, followed by the highest dose (100% of the LC50) of the Talahib extract, while lower concentrations had weaker effects. For Average Blood Vessel Diameter (Dv), the positive control had the least value at 11.67 ± 0.97 mm, followed by the 100% concentration showing a trend of decreasing diameter with increasing concentration. The Total Blood Vessel Length (LT) saw the greatest reduction at the 75% concentration (3923.82 ± 844.99 pixels), indicating that the response is not directly proportional to concentration. Statistical analysis of LT % inhibition revealed significant differences between all concentrations of the Talahib extract and the negative control. Significant differences were also noted between the 50% and 75% groups, and between the 75% group and the positive control. The 75% concentration, identified as the most effective, likely showed significant differences in LT and LT % inhibition compared to the positive control. Phytochemical analysis confirmed the presence of bioactive compounds in the extract, supporting its anti- angiogenic potential. These results indicate that Talahib leaf ethanolic extract. particularly at the 75% concentration, exhibits notable antiangiogenic potential, with a more pronounced effect on reducing total blood vessel length rather than blood vessel diameter.
