ABSTRACT: The Philippine Star Mobile Phone application, downloadable on apps stores allows the audiences or readers to scan through articles by using smart phones; in the archive or the latest newspaper issue of The Philippine Star, one of the biggest publications in the country. The users can also view videos from the featured news item, including photos and website links; listen to audio news commentary or promotional music feed; watch movie trailers; get product details from advertisers such as product names and prices; purchase products through mobile devices, ect. The mobile application has access to social media and the Digital Edition of the Philippine Star newspaper wherein the readers can access the actual pages of The Philippine Star through electronic media. The Augmented Reality component of this mobile application is called the Liveit! App. This particular aspect of The Philippine Star application has the capability to scan images with the Live it! Star badge in the newspaper itself, then videos, additional images, podcasts or interview recordings of the actual news event in the images can be directly accessed. Augmented Reality technology from the term augmented which is synonymous with supplement, is an image recognition technology that utilizes sensory gadgets', such as cameras which serves as the user's visual tool, where images, graphics and data are being augmented with the real world. The descriptive study on the integration of Augmented Reality application to The Philippine Star ought to qualitatively present the changes in the processes of the daily operation of The Philippine Star, the roles that the editorial department upholds to adapt and provide for the AR application and the immediate and long term impact of this innovation to the newspaper organization and its readers/audiences. The major findings of the study include the factors considered in placing Augmented Reality content: the availability of content that can be used for the Live it! Application; relevances of news item on a certain day; impact or appeal of the Augmented Reality content; and overall importance of the news story. The researchers also Philippines Star's Digital team is still in the experimental stage of retraining its press people to adjust to the prepositions of the AR technology and other intensive portals that they have integrated in their newspaper organization. The goal behind the integration of Augmented Reality to The Philippine Star is to raise the numbers in circulation and gain more audiences.
