The ability of activated and pyrolysed tamarind seeds to remove Remazol Red dye from aqueous solutions and wastewaters was investigated. Pyrolysis was carried out in a furnace at 200 - 75oC for 1 hour. Activation was carried out by soaking the sample in 50% ZnCl2 for 48 hours followed by pyrolysis. All aqueous dye solutions contained 2,000 mg 1-1 NaCl, to mimic real dye wastewater. A series of kinetic and isotherms experiments were conducted to determine the sorption-desorption behaviour of Remazol Red dye from aqueous solutions and wastewaters by the two sorbents. The results from the aqueous solutions and wastewater indicate that the form of the isotherm equation is necessarily unique for best description of both sorption and desorption data except for the behaviour of pyrolysed tamarind seeds on the removal of color from dye aqueous solution, the values of the isotherm parameters are not the same. In all cases, the sorption capacity of dye removal was higher for activated tamarind seeds than pyrolysed tamarind seeds ER -
