Tannin was extracted from the peelings of santol (Sandoricum koetjape) using continuous 6-stage countercurrent method with 1:4 Bark-to-Water ratio. The extract obtained was qualitatively analysed. Its solubility with different organic solvents was also determined. The extracts were concentrated by means of a rotary evaporator and dried in a vacuum oven. The percentage yield of tannin obtained was 14.44%. From the three formulation of phenol-formaldehyde resin with the addition of tannin extract, it was found that the formulation with 1:0.5 ratio was the best among the three formulations, When compared with the commercial plywood adhesive the tannin-based adhesive produced with 1:0.5 phenol-formaldehyde resin did not pass the standard given by the Philippine National Standard for Plywood Adhesive, in terms of bond strength. But in terms of lamination and moisture content, the said formulation met the standard ; 5; F ER -
