ABSTRACT: In the current study, green synthesis of copper-based nanoparticles was synthesized using plant from the Philippines. Specifically, the peels of selected species from the Citrus genus (Citrus x microcarpa Bunge, Citrus x aurantium L., Citrus x aurantiifolia (Christm.) Swingle, citrus maxima (Burn).) Merr, and Citrus x reticulate Blanco) were used. The percentage yield of the Citrus x reticulate Blanco) were used. The percentage yield of the citrus peel extracts used are 16.33%, 18.37%, 14.27%, 19.37%, and 14.43%. It is then characterized using UV-Visible spectroscopy, which resulted in surface plasmon resonance peaks of 205 nm, 220nm, 208 nm, and 216 nm. FTIR spectroscopy analysis shows the presence of phenols and hydroxyl linkages in the spectra, which acted as a capping agent and reducing agent in the synthesis of the nanoparticles. Further, SEM analysis shows spherical particles with agglomerations having average particles sizes of 74nm, 100 nm, 68 nm, and 60 nm. EDX analysis confirms the presence of copper, along with carbon and oxygen, indicating the production of CuONPs. DLS analysis shows Z-average sizes of 1918 d. nm, 1499 d. nm, 1601 d. nm, 1105 d. nm, and 571.8 d. nm. Such results implied that using selected Philippine Citrus fruits, plant-mediated Cu-based nanoparticles can be successfully produced.
