ABSTRACT: The study focused on the Identification and Prevalence of Gastrointestinal Parasites Among Children Aged 2-5 in Barangay 719 Zone 78 Victo Cruz, Malate, Manila. A total of eighty-five (85) stool samples were collected from the month of October 2004 to January 2005. Three diagnostic techniques: Kato-Katz Modified Thick Smear Technique, Harada Mori Culture Method and Formalin Ether Concentration Technique (FECT) were used to identify the presence of parasites on the stools Survey questions were given to identify which among the risk factors such as sex, age, nail biting habit, source of water, walking bare foot, playing in floods when raining, washing of hands before meals are associated on the rate of parasitic infection. Ascaris lumbricoides and Trichuris trichiura were the parasites identified. A. lumbricoides (23.53%) has a higher prevalence compared to T. Trichiura (2.3550. The rate of parasitic infection was not dependent on the risk factors except for the age of the subjects.
