ABSTRACT E-commerce is growing rapidly, especially through e-commerce businesses such as Shopee and Lazada in the Philippines. Such growth leads to more use of plastic packaging materials that ends up causing an adverse impact on the environment. This paper aims to identify sustainable operational solutions for plastic waste reduction in e- commerce packaging by examining consumer's attitude, cost analysis and barriers to making the switch. Using a descriptive-correlational approach, a survey will be conducted with 224 Shopee and Lazada users in Manila that includes gathering data on sustainable packaging preferences, and environmental awareness. The results aim to show that many consumers are concerned about the environmental harm of plastic packaging, with some willing to pay a bit more for ecofriendly packaging options. However, there are challenges that hinder this change. Three main barriers are the lack of knowledge of the consumers regarding the benefits and effects of sustainable operations to the environment, the limited availability of sustainable packaging materials, and the higher cost associated with sustainable packaging options compared to plastic packaging materials. This research is grounded in the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) Theory, which emphasizes balancing social, environmental, and economic aspects. The study assesses sustainable packaging as a possible solution for e-commerce. While some consumers are willing to use sustainable packaging, bigger change is held back by logistical and financial challenges. To reduce plastic waste meaningfully, e-commerce companies, policymakers, and consumers need to work together. The research recommendations include creating guidelines that encourage sustainable packaging and educating consumers on the environmental impacts of plastic waste. This study provides useful insights for e- commerce businesses, suggesting ways to incorporate sustainable strategies into packaging.
