ABSTRACT: This study aimed to assess the grief responses of women involved in induced abortion. The study utilized Parallel Mixed Method. For the qualitative method, the investigator adapted Perinatal Grief Scale published by Lori J. Toedter, Ph. D. Of Moravian College and Judith N. Lasker, Ph. D. of Leigh University in 1989. Purposive sampling was used to select samples as the participants of the study. There were 25 women agreed to take part on the quantitative part of the study. Seven women agreed to do a follow up one on one interview to facilitate the qualitative part of the study. Participants came from the admitted patients of Ospital ng Maynila Memorial Medical Center (OMMC), Ospital ng Sampaloc, and Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital (JJASGEN). The results showed that women who had abortion have a high level of grief as shown by an above average mean on the total Perinatal Grief Scale and its three subscales: Active Grief, Difficulty Coping and Despair. It is therefore strongly recommended to implement the output of the study, Proposed Patient Care Management Program for Women Who Had Induced Abortion to help women recuperate from the pain that they are having because of their experience. Also, it is also recommended for future researchers to replicate this study using a large number of respondents and different socioeconomic group.
