ABSTRACT: The study aimed to assess the perceived effectiveness of simulated-teaching platform used as a teaching strategy on the acquisition of nursing student skills. Based on the findings of the study, a skills training program for students have been developed. Descriptive research was the method adopted and survey questionnaire was utilized as a tool. A 30-item self-constructed questionnaire was given to 42 level IV clinical instructors and 238 Bachelor of Science in Nursing students of Manila Doctors College of Nursing from January 4-20, 2007. Likert scale was used by the senior nursing students and clinical instructors as respondents in answering the survey questionnaire. Findings from the data gathered were encoded and tabulated using the Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences (SPSS) The findings of the study revealed that both the student and clinical instructor respondents perceived as highly effective the use of Simulated-Teaching Platform as a teaching strategy on the acquisition of nursing student skills. The behavioral indicators ranked lowest by the student and clinical instructor respondents paved the way for the development of a Skills Training program that aimed to further enhance the skills acquisition of student nurses. In addition, the researcher is highly recommending a need to randomize the conduct of the study wherein solely relying on the perceived effectiveness should not be the point of emphasis. There is an actual need to standardize objective criteria and focus on areas which are to strengthen. For future researches, it would be better a non-interested group be conducting the evaluation and age for the demographic profile of the clinical instructor respondents be included as well. Future studies on the relevance of simulated-teaching platform as a teaching strategy may be done to further improve the teaching-learning process in an educational environment particularly in the acquisition of nursing skills.
