ABSTRACT. The purpose of this study is to identify the common stressors and coping mechanisms of the second year nursing students under the General Education Curriculum. This aims to identify the profile variables which are the gender and socioeconomic status and its relationship to stress and coping mechanisms. A null hypothesis was formulated to test the significant relationships. The study used a descriptive type of research design as its main objective is the accurate portrayal of the characteristics of the subject. The study was conducted at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila College of Nursing wherein 101 samples were selected through stratified random sampling. This consisted of 77 female students and 24 males. To determine the stress index and coping mechanism used by the 2nd year SN, the formula for the weighted mean of ungrouped data was used. Chi-square was also applied to determine if there is a significant relationship between the profile variable and the stress index as well as the profile variable and the coping mechanisms. The researchers found out that females have a higher population and majority of the respondents belong to a family with a monthly income of Php30,000 - Php39,999. The data showed that academic stressors are the most prevalent. The Seek Alternative Rewards was the most identified coping mechanism with a weighted mean of 2.49. Researchers recommend the use of the Wellness Program which was formulated through the data gathered. Proper supervision of the professors and the university are necessary to help the 2nd year student nurses along with their academic pursuit. There is no significant relationship between the coping mechanisms and profile variables however a significant relationship between the profile variable and coping mechanisms existed.
