Based on the findings of the study, what are the guidelines that can be developed to maximize the use of social networking in improving academic performance? Participants of the study were the Third Year Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila - College of Nursing students. The researchers utilized quantitative descriptive survey method. In order to determine the Relationship of Social Networking in the Academic Performance of Third Year Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila - College of Nursing Students, the researchers developed a 34-item self-made survey questionnaire that was divided into two parts. The first part of the survey form which has nine questions included the profile variable of the respondents while the second part of the survey which consists of twenty four questions assessed how social networking sites relate to cognitive domain of learning. Five-point Likert Scale was used by the respondents in answering the questionnaire. Probability Sampling was used to select the respondents based on the criteria set. Eighty third year nursing students passed the criteria and turn out to be the respondents. Moreover, for the statistical analysis of the study, it was revealed that the respondents have a satisfactory and very satisfactory level of cognitive behavior in relation to their social networking profile. Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: In the light of findings, Facebook was the most widely used social networking site followed by Twitter, Multiply and MySpace. Majority of the respondents spent their time in social networking in a minimal duration yet frequently. The results also showed that most of the respondents were just starting to engage in social networking and preferred to socialize in the evening session. Home was the chosen place of access to open social networking site(s) among the respondents and personal computer was the tool of their access in these site(s). Socialization was the chosen main reason for participation in social networking site(s) from the majority of the respondents followed by staying up-to-date with school activities and friends were the involved persons in the said socialization using social networking site(s). Majority of the respondents got a Fair result in terms of their General Weighted Average and very few among them got a grade of Satisfactory and under Probation. The results from the weighted mean of social networking in relation to the levels of cognitive behavior regardless which item got the highest weighted mean was Satisfactory. According to the result of the Chi-square test, the null hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, there was no significant relationship between the extent of academic performance of the students in terms of their General Weighted Average during first and second semester and the levels of cognitive behavior and their social networking profile except from the results of second semester General Weighted Average in relation to frequency use of social networking site(s), levels of cognitive behavior to tool of access, and levels of cognitive behavior to people involved in socialization exceeded the tabular value, thus, rejecting the null hypothesis. At 0.05 level of significance, the computed value revealed that most of the results showed no significant relationship between the social networking profile and the extent of academic performance of the students. Thus, the null hypothesis of which there is no significant relationship between the two variables above mentioned was accepted because most of the computed value of the results are to small to surpass the tabular value and those that exceeds the tabular value was denoted as rejection of null hypothesis which was shown in other result that would mean a significant relationship. On the basis of the findings and conclusion, the following recommendations were offered: Nursing Research. To the future researchers, the researchers would like to recommend conducting the study in different colleges not just limiting to the college of nursing and to all year levels of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.
