ABSTRACT: Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS) is a very common condition in general population which accounts to several factors that includes physical, chemical, mechanical and psychological factors. The study aims to determine the level of awareness on the factors contributing to its occurrence among Information Technology (IT) students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) SY 2010-2011. A descriptive research design was used to determine their level of awareness and a survey form was utilized to obtain data. IT students were chosen as the respondents of the study because they are highly predispose to occurrence of MPS due to improper and prolonged sitting posture they present. Slovin's formula was used to acquire total number of population which came out with 182 respondents from all year level. Furthermore a stratified probability sampling method was employed to divide the entire population into subgroups. A pilot study on a block of first year IT students was conducted for validation of tool as recommended by the validators. The validated questionnaire was reproduced and randomly distributed to the respondents. The gathered data was tabulated and interpreted using SPSS 11.5. The result of the study showed that IT students of PLM had high level of awareness on the factors contributing to the occurrence of MPS.
