Bachelor of Science in Nursing; 5 N2 - ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study is to find out the smoking behavior of the public health nurses and their level of promotion of anti-smoking campaign. The study was conducted in selected health centers within the city of Manila and questionnaire were used to obtain data. The study was conducted to determine the smoking behavior and the level of promotion of anti-smoking campaign of public health nurses. Specifically, it attempts to gather on their demographic profiles (gender, civil status and years of public health practice), their smoking behavior, and their level of promotion of anti-smoking campaign. The study aims to prove if there is no significant difference on the smoking behaviour of the public health nurses when grouped according to profile variable; if there is no significant difference on the level of promotion of anti-smoking campaign of the public health nurses when grouped according to profile variable and if there is no significant relationship between the smoking behaviour and the level of promotion of anti-smoking campaign of public health nurses. Public health nurses serving in the health centers in 6 districts within the city of Manila are chosen to be the respondents of the study. T-test, one way ANOVA and Pearson's r are the statistical treatments used in the study. Descriptive Correlational design was used in this study, where it describes the relationship between two or more variables in a particular sample without knowing the reason for the relationship (Polit & Beck 2008). The research study had found out that most of the respondents are 70.97% female nurses and 29.03% are male nurses. This consists of 8.06% moderate smokers. Non-smokers dominated the population for the reason they are aware of the harmful effects of cigarette to their bodies and being in the nursing profession, it is their responsibility to promote and maintain their own health above all. The level of promotion of public health nurses was generally highly satisfactory, in which they practice promotion despite of their smoking behaviour. It was found out that there is no significant difference in the smoking behaviour of the public health nurses when grouped in terms of gender, civil status and years of public health practice. Moreover, there is no significant difference in the level of promotion of anti-smoking campaign of public health nurses when grouped in terms of gender, civil status and years of public health practice. Overall, there is no significant relationship between the smoking behaviour and the level of anti-smoking campaign of the public health nurses. It means that they were able to promote smoking cessation as what the nature of nursing profession calls. The study about the smoking behaviour and the level of promotion of anti-smoking campaign of public health nurses benefits of the respondents itself because it showed that they are able to practice the responsibility of being a nurse and being an example to the community. Lastly, based on the results of the study, what health management guidelines that should be developed? The study utilized a descriptive correlational research design and purposive sampling technique to determine the respondents or subjects based on the researchers judgment. The study had a total number of 15 respondents which come from a residential home care. The needed data was obtained through a researcher-constructed survey delivered in a sense of oral questionnaire. The tool underwent validation of experts in the field of Psychology and Nursing to ensure the validity and reliability of data. A pre-testing or pilot testing was also performed and showed consistency of answers. The data gathered revealed significant relationship between the psychosocial impact of abandonment and coping strategies of geriatric individual living in a home care. Findings revealed that elders perceived a strengthened relationship with God, great loneliness and sadness are also experienced by elders, social health is affected by abandonment in a way that they developed difficulty of trusting other individuals. The researchers suggest that the health management guidelines be used by the health care providers dealing with the care of abandoned elders to effectively manage their psychosocial heath. The researchers recommend future researchers to replicate the study and consider its limitations or other variables so as to come up with the more comprehensive study. Further development of this research and implementation of outcomes proven by evidences, will lead to betterment of care rendered to abandoned elders ER -
