ABSTRACT: The main objective of this study was determine the level of knowledge and attitude of the undergraduate students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila on smoking. Specifically, it aimed to (1) describe the profile of the university students in terms of their college, smoking status and smoking exposure at home; (2) to determine the level of knowledge of the university students on smoking in terms of basic concept about smoking, harmful effects of smoking to self and harmful effects of smoking to others and environment; (3) determine the level of attitude of the university students on smoking when it comes to their refusal to engage/ continue smoking and their support to anti-smoking campaign; (4) determine if there is a significant difference on the level of knowledge when group according to profile (5) determine if there is a significant difference on the level of attitude when group according to profile; (6) determine if there is a significant relationship on the level of knowledge and level of attitude on smoking and (8) determine what school-based awareness campaign material can be developed. The study was conducted among 383 respondents, specifically the undergraduate students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. The information and data needed were gathered through the use of questionnaires which were answered within 10-15 minutes. To gather the necessary data, a three part questionnaire was utilized. The first part is the profile of the respondents; second part is the level of knowledge on smoking; third part is the level of attitude on smoking. The statistical treatment measures employed to study the significant relationship between the level of knowledge and level of attitude of the university students on smoking were the following: frequency distribution table, t-test and Pearson's R test. The study utilized the used of descriptive through survey method to gather information about the level of knowledge and the level of attitude. For the selection of respondents, stratified random sampling was used. A t-test was used to compare the difference between the two means. Pearson's R test was also used in this study to indicate the relationship between two quantitative set of scores, to complete correlational coefficient (Woodburry, 2001). In totality, the results revealed that the senior nursing student's level of knowledge has a significant relationship on the level of attitude on smoking; there is a significant difference in the level of knowledge when they are grouped according to profile's college and smoking status and level of attitude when they are grouped according to smoking status, smoking exposure, smoking status but there is no significant difference when it comes to the respondent's level of knowledge when it comes to their smoking exposure at home, level of attitude on refusal to engage / continue smoking when grouped according to college and level of attitude on support for anti-smoking activities when grouped according to college.
