ABSTRACT: This survey was conducted to assess preparedness of barangay residents in the City of Manila on Natural Disasters. It specifically determined the community's concern to natural disasters, their extent of preparedness, priotirization of community natural disaster goal and perceived need for community-wide strategies. It also measured significant relationships of these variables. Such focus was purposively used to create a primer for enhancement of disaster preparedness through NSTP activities. To achieve this, barangay residents from six disaster-prone were utilized as respondents on the survey. An adapted-questionnaire from Oregon Partnership for Disaster Resilience by Andre Le Duc was utilized in the study and translation to Filipino language was done prior to the distribution of questionnaires to the respondents. For statistical treatment, the researcher utilized weighted mean and Pearson r to analyses and to interpret the gathered data. A total of 204 barangay respondents participated in the survey where in the head of the household were asked to answer the prepared questionnaire. The results indicated that the barangay respondents have a concern to a very great extent to natural disasters namely: earthquake, flood and typhoon. Also, there is a high level of preparedness when it comes to the extent of preparedness of the respondents. It was noted that the respondents have a moderate level of preparedness in meetings and information about disaster preparedness and Family Emergency Plan. The results also show that the respondents have a low level of preparedness in First Aid and CPR which is significant in disaster preparedness of every household in the community. Community members have a priority to a very great extent to community natural disaster goal. Barangay respondents also need community-wide strategies to a very great extent. There were noted that there is no significant relationship in the respondents level of concern and the extent of preparation to the different natural disaster. Moreover, there is moderately small positive significant relationship in the respondents level of prioritization of community Disaster Goal and perceived need for community-wide strategies. The results were used as a basis in the primer for enhancement in disaster preparedness thru NSTP activities which aimed to improve the disaster risk reduction measures particularly disaster preparedness.
