Specifically, it aimed to answer the following questions: 1. What is the teachers' demographic profile in terms of the following A. Personal Profile 1. Age 2. Sex 3. Highest Education Attainment 4. Present Position 5. Length of Service 6. Professional Development Attended B. Social Profile 1. Type of Social Gatherings 2. Recreational Activities 3. Membership in Organizations C. Economic Profile 1. Type of Residence 2. Reading Materials 3. Basic Monthly Salary 4. Other Source of Income 5. Number of Children 6. Other Family Members 2. What is the performance rating of teachers for the school year 1995-1996? 3. Is there any significant relationship between the teachers demographics profile and their performance ratings? Respondents, Instrumentation and Procedure Using the purposive sampling technique, a total of 140 teacher-respondents of Raja Soliman High School comprised the study. The descriptive survey method was utilized through a questionnaire as the principal tool in gathering data, supplemented by an interview and observation. Based on related ideas and concept related literature and studies, adviser, guidance and close supervision, and from personal experience, the questionnaire was formulated and trial tested at Manila High School, and was personally administered by the researcher in his place of study. All the teacher-respondents in the study or one hundred percent (100%) returned the questionnaire. Responses were tabulated and statistically treated through the use of frequency, percentage, ranking and chi-square to test the null hypothesis - that there was no significant relationship between the teachers' demographic profile such as personal, social and economic, and their performance rating. Findings Under the personal profile, the first was age where the largest group belonged to the middle adults followed by early adults, and late adults; Sex, were the females outnumbered the males; Educational attainment where majority have finished or have advanced units in masters degree; Teaching position where majority are Teacher II and III; and the last was professional development attended where most have attended in summer institutes. On the social profile, it was found out that majority of the teacher-respondents have engaged in different social and recreational activities as part of their social functions in school and community. With regard to the economic profile, it was found out that the monthly basic salary of the teachers-respondents are not enough to meet their daily economic requirements. This is the reason why majority of them have engaged in some augmentary measures. On the relationship between the variables in teachers' demographic profile and performance rating, it was found out that out of the fifteen (15) variables which were correlated with the performance ratings of the teacher-respondents during the School Year 1995-1996, eleven (11) - six or all variables under personal profile, two out of three variables under personal profile, three variables under economic profile, were found to be statistically significant at .05 level of significance. On the other hand, there were four variables which were found not significantly related to performance rating: one under social profile and three under economic profile. Conclusions Based on the foregoing findings, the following conclusion were drawn: 1. Teacher respondents' personal profile such as age, sex, highest educational attainment. Teaching position, length of service and professional development program attended were strong motivators or influencing factors in attaining performance. 2. On the social aspect, the teacher-respondents are keenly aware that education is life, growth and social process. That despite their very limited and financial resources still they managed to have some form of social and recreational activities and try to finish or earn units in graduate studies. 3. With regard to the economic profile, it can be concluded that the teacher-respondents are indeed responsible professional as manifested on the kind of reading materials they read, the type of residence they occupy, their augmentary measurer, wise budgeting due to low salary and proper household management especially those with children and other family members. 4. The result of this study is one clear proof that teacher-respondents were efficient end effective and highly motivated to work for quality performance as justified by their performance ratings despite the voluminous work that they face everyday, low salary, and time constraints. Recommendations In the light of the conclusions made, the following significant recommendations were formulated. 1. Teachers should never stop in upgrading or enhancing their personal profile especially in the areas on educational and professional development as potent factors in improving teaching performance. On the other hand, educational leaders and administrators must be sensitive enough to respond to the needs of teachers in the form of more scholarship opportunities, seminar-workshops, conferences, and moral and financial assistance to deserving teachers. 2. Teachers should be more intelligent in choosing social or recreational activities which would benefit not only their professional and social life, but their family life as well; taking into consideration the time and financial constraints 3. There is a very urgent need on the part of the government particularly here in the City of Manila to increase and release on time all the financial assistance for the teacher as on of the primary reasons in upgrading their demographic life particularly their socio-economic life. 4. Other studies on the relationship between teachers' performance rating and other variables such as educational orientation, experience, and administrative competencies of head teachers be conducted to hind out its impact on educational management. 5. Further research along this line may be conducted in larger setting, probably district or division levels in order to come up with more comprehensive results ER -
