ABSTRACT: This research investigated the significance of socio-demographic profile of respondents in relation to their perception of the Technical Aspects of the Design and the cardinal functions of a Web site. The sample respondents included 104 students enrolled in literature subjects from the following schools: Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Mapua Institute of Technology, and La Fortuna College (Cabanatuan City). Descriptive research method was used by correlating socio-demographic profiles of respondents with the Technical Aspects of the Design and the Cardinal Functions of a Web site. Data were gathered using survey questionnaire. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS for Windows) version 6.0 was used to compute for correlation coefficient, percentage and frequency distribution. The findings about the significance of the relationship between socio-demographic profile of the respondents and their perceptions of the Technical Aspects of the Design, revealed that there is a significant relationship between socio-demographic profile and the Technical Aspect of the Design, except for school which exhibited no significance in all the technical aspects of the design. The result of the findings implies that perceptions of speed, appearance, multimedia and graphics, homepage information, information quality, and navigation may vary depending on the socio-demographic profile of respondents such as gender, occupation, age and course, except for school which does not affect the respondents' perceptions of the technical aspects of the design. The findings about the significance of the relationship between socio-demographic profile of the respondents and their perception of the Cardinal Functions of a Web site, revealed that there is a significant relationship between socio-demographic profile and the Cardinal Functions of a Website, except for school which exhibited no significant relationship with the cardinal functions of a website. The result of the findings implies that perceptions of entertainment, information, communication, and persuasion may very depending on the socio-demographic profile of respondents such as gender, occupation, age and course, except school which does not affect the respondents' perceptions of the cardinal functions of a Website. Based on the results of the study, significant relationship do exist with socio-demographic profile of respondents and their perceptions of the technical aspects of the design therefore the null hypothesis must be rejected. Similarly, based on treated data, the second null hypothesis must be rejected because there is a significant relationship between socio-demographic profile and the cardinal functions of a website. Among the socio-demographic variables correlated with the technical aspects of the design and the cardinal functions of a website, age is a very good determinant of the perceptions in the evaluation of the Philippine Epics Website. It is necessary therefore to assess the perceptions of the intended audience of the proposed Digital Media Conversion of Selected Philippine Epics. Based on the findings of the study, the researcher arrived at the following recommendations. 1. In future design of the proposed Digital Media Conversion of Selected Philippine Epics, it is important to take into consideration the age group of the students as well as the kinds of experience-based representations of the physical and social world that students have constructed, because they were the point where new information is assimilated into the knowledge system. Guideline from usability engineering must be used in designing the proposed Digital Media Conversion of Selected Philippine Epics. 2. Studies should be conducted using a control group and experimental group to assess the extent of learning using the educational Web site. Interested researcher should consider using the materials contained in the Philippine Epic Web site to determine whether an increase in learning is achieved by using the Philippine Epic Website versus the traditional method of reading the Epic from the book. Another area of research that needs further examination is based on parallel processing of information and how it affect the knowledge acquisition of the learner.
