Augmented reality navigation assistance for PLM offices integrating chatbot functionality for appointment scheduling and information access - Capstone Project: (Bachelor of Science in Information Technology) - Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, 2025

ABSTRACT: The lack of effective navigation aids at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) makes it difficult for individuals to locate facilities and access essential services. Students also struggle with appointment inquiries, document follow-ups, and identifying the right personal due to limited contextual and engaging information about PLM offices. To address this, the study presents the development of an Augmented Reality (AR) Navigation Assistance system for Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), integrating chatbot functionality to enhance user experience. The system incorporates three key features: (1) AR-based indoor navigation, which provides real-time path guidance for locating offices and facilities, (2) an AI-driven chatbot that assists with FAQs and appointment scheduling ensuring quick access to campus services, and (3) interactive Points of Interest (POIs) that offer multimedia content on historical landmarks within the university. The system was developed using Unity and Vuforia for AR navigation, while the Dialogflow API powers chatbot interactions. The Agile development methodology was employed, allowing interactive refinements based on user feedback. Initial evaluations indicate that the system significantly improves navigation efficiency and user interaction. However, testing revealed the need for enhancements, particularly in path accuracy, as the current AR-generated routes do not always align with the physical environment. Similarly, while the chatbot demonstrated strong performance in processing user intents, improvements in POI implementation are necessary to create a more comprehensive navigation experience. Future enhancements should prioritize optimizing path calculations with advanced algorithms, extending support to iOS devices, and integrating a user feedback system for ongoing improvements. Additionally, increasing the number of POIs and refining their content will contribute to a more immersive user experience. These findings highlight the potential of integrating AR and AI-driven assistance to enhance campus accessibility, engagement, and operational efficiency, ultimately improving student navigation and overall campus experience.
