N1  - ABSTRACT :  unknown to many, the Royal pragmatic expelling the jesuits from the Philippines precipitated a power struggle between Archbishop Sancho de Santa Justa, who harbored strong hatred for the jesuits and the Oidor, domingo de Blas Basaraz, who was a strong supporter of the Jesuits. Basaraz's confiscation of pamphlets denouncing the jesuits led to moves and counter-movers from both sides, which led to important outcomes.
