Action note: In: Summary: ABSTRACT: This study was conducted to improve the level of performance and attitude in Algebra of students using explicit instruction, peer tutoring and cooperative learning. Both qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques were used for collecting the data. The qualitative data was collected using observation checklist, survey questionnaire and informal interview. For quantitative data collection, the researchers used pre-test and post-test. As the researchers analyzed and interpreted the data gathered from the pre-test and post-test, the results showed that the level of performance in Algebra of the students improved. However, there is no significant difference between the post-tests of the group taught using traditional method and the group taught using explicit instruction and cooperative learning. The t-tests of the group taught using traditional method and the group taught using peer conveyed a significant difference. The group taught using traditional method greater improvement. Certain factors seemed to affect result of this study such as the appropriateness of the strategy to the lesson and the attentiveness of the students to the discussion. On the other hand, based on the observation checklist and survey questionnaire, the attitude towards Algebra of the students also improved. Therefore, utilizing explicit instruction, peer tutoring and cooperative learning can develop the level of performance of the students in Algebra and can foster students positive impression in Mathematics.
