ABSTRACT: The Philippines is endowed with a wealth of edible indigenous plants, and many of these have not yet been evaluated of their potential benefits especially in drug formulary. An informative material was developed based from the results of the cytotoxicity assay and antioxidant screening of selected plants from the province of Romblon. One of the country's endemic plant, Alagau-gubat (Premna nauseosa) showed promising result with IC50 of 12.0563 µg/ml, suggesting that it is the most cytotoxic among the ethanolic plant extracts tested in this study against human colorectal carcinoma (HCT-116). It also exhibited antioxidant property with 78% free radical scavenging activity followed by Kinyam (Antidesma ghaesembilla) with 88% antioxidant activity. The rest of the plant crude ethanolic samples (Caesalpina sappan, Alstonia macrophylla and Syzgium polycephaloides) did not exhibit cytotoxic and antioxidant activities.
