Action note: In: Summary: ABSTRACT: Simplified Lesk Algorithm branched out from Lesk Algorithm, an algorithm that deals with Word Sense Disambiguation. It is a process of determining the meaning of a word based on how it was used in a given sentence. The algorithm extracts from the list of word's meaning and picks the right meaning of the word for that sentence. These are words which have many definitions can be used in order to understand a sentence. With the process of word sense disambiguation, the Simplified Lesk Algorithm was created. The algorithm checks the different definitions of a word (from a gloss) and compares it to the words in the constructed sentence if there is a match. It will record the number of matches for every definition. The definition with the most number of matches from the words of the sentence will be the meaning of the word that is being checked. The purpose of the study is to further enhance the Simplified Lesk Algorithm so that it can be more correct in terms of providing the right meaning of a word in a given sentence. Despite the fact that Simplified Lesk Algorithm was already an enhancement of the Lesk Algorithm, it still returns wrong sense in determining the word's definition that suits the sentence when there is an overlap. The enhancement of the Simplified Lesk Algorithm will serve as another milestone in the field of Natural Language Processing. Also, it would be beneficial to people to widen and improve their vocabularies and improve their contextual understanding. It shall also serve as a great help to English language professors, students, future researchers and to everyone who seeks to define meanings of words in a context. Other editions:
